Social Work Licensure
- Establish your eligibility for licensure by checking with your state licensing board.
- For PA licensure, you must complete the PA Social Worker Application for Licensure form to establish your eligibility: http://www.dos.state.pa.us/bpoa/lib/bpoa/20/socwkbd/sw_app_0703.pdf
- Once you have established your eligibility for social work licensure through your state licensing board (in PA this is done by submitting the form above), you should schedule the National Social Work Licensing Exam by ASWB http://www.aswb.org/
QUALIFICATIONS TO TAKE THE ASWB MASTER’S EXAMINATION FOR PENNSYLVANIA LICENSURE
- To be eligible for the ASWB Master’s examination, the applicant must be in the final semester or hold a Master’s Degree or a Doctoral Degree in social work or social welfare from a school accredited by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE).
- If the applicant is in his/her final semester, have the CSWE school complete the Verification of Social Work Education for Applicants Enrolled in Their Final Semester form. The form must be sent directly from the educational institution to the Board in an official sealed school envelope. This form should be submitted to the SP2 Registrar, who will complete it and send directly to the Board.
- **In order for a license to be issued, an official transcript showing a Master’s degree in social work or social welfare must be sent directly from the educational institution to the Board in an official sealed school envelope.** YOU MUST REQUEST THAT AN OFFICIAL TRANSCRIPT BE SENT THOUGH PENN’S REGISTRAR’S OFFICE; a $10 processing fee applies. To order a Penn transcript go to: http://www.upenn.edu/registrar/student-services/transcripts.html
- For an applicant that has graduated and received a Master’s degree, the SP2 registrar does not need to submit anything. But you must request an official transcript showing a Master’s degree in social work or social welfare to be sent directly from the educational institution to the Board. To order a Penn transcript go to: http://www.upenn.edu/registrar/student-services/transcripts.html
